Wander Residence
2,195 sq ft
Wander Residence is a top-floor family apartment designed for a household with four children, a dog, and two cats. Located on the upper level of a residential building in Moscow, the apartment benefits from rare spatial qualities: ceilings reaching nearly four meters and windows wrapping around three sides of the space, opening panoramic views over the city.
When Fruktov Interiors joined the project, the client had already been developing the layout with another team but felt the apartment lacked clarity. He had a strong vision of how the space should feel — how light moves through the rooms and how sunset enters the apartment. The role of the designers was to structure these ideas and transform them into a coherent spatial system.
Originally the apartment was a large open volume with several structural columns and windows along three façades. The main living areas — kitchen, dining room, and living room — were organized along the central axis opposite the entrance. This arrangement preserves the panoramic views and creates a generous shared space for the family.
The kitchen sits between the dining and living areas as a transparent volume enclosed in glass. A circulation loop runs around it along the windows, allowing children to move freely through the apartment while reinforcing the kitchen as a central island within the home.
Color became the defining element of the interior. Bold reds, greens, and yellows mark different zones and bring energy and identity to the space. Industrial references — exposed concrete ceilings, graphic black details, and custom steel elements — add structure and contrast, while natural wood keeps the interior warm and balanced.
Much of the furniture and architectural elements were custom-designed for the project. The result is a vibrant family home where strong architectural gestures coexist with everyday life.
